MW4 Ending Explained: Gaz, the Archer & Post-Credits

Full campaign spoilers: what happens to Gaz, who the Archer is, how Greater Good ends, and what Laswell’s post-credits scene shows.

The ending in brief

Published campaign walkthroughs agree that Gaz is killed by the Archer, and Price kills the Archer before dying of his wounds in Greater Good. Ghost survives the final encounter. The Korea storyline reaches its conclusion in Decapitation; Laswell has a separate scene after the credits. These are successive story conclusions, not three endings selected from a menu.

Who is the Archer?

The Archer is played by Mads Mikkelsen. The campaign explanations identify him as a Russian defense minister working with Konni and reveal that he is Vladimir Makarov's father. His involvement connects the Korean conflict with Price's pursuit of Makarov. FandomWire and the scene-by-scene Archer reference describe the identity reveal.

Does Gaz die in MW4?

Yes, in the campaign account covered by the checked walkthroughs. The Archer executes Kyle “Gaz” Garrick while Task Force 141 is captive, before the final Price mission. The Gaz dialogue heard again during Greater Good is a remembered exchange; it is not evidence that he survived the earlier scene. The reference is the 2026 campaign, not the original 2007 game.

Why does Ko stay in Korea?

At the end of Decapitation, Ko does not leave with Park's departing squad. He says that Korea is his home and stays to fight for its future. This decision is described by both DETONATED and FandomWire. A future leadership role is an interpretation of that scene, not a confirmed appointment or a published future storyline.

Price and Ghost in Greater Good

Greater Good returns control to Price and ends his pursuit of the Archer on a frozen lake. Price defeats him but is fatally wounded. Ghost reaches Price and is still alive when he leaves the scene. The source accounts disagree about the precise object used in the last blow; this guide does not present one version of that detail as verified.

The final-mission walkthrough identifies the Hold the Line completion achievement. Use the mission list to find Greater Good, and continue beyond the earlier Korea conclusion if that mission has not played yet.

What happens after the credits?

Laswell removes the Task Force 141 records and speaks to a woman about taking over the Watcher role. The checked ending accounts connect this handover with DMZ operations. Deleting Ghost's file does not establish that Ghost is dead: the final mission shows him survive. The successor's identity and unannounced future missions are not filled in here.

Choices, interpretations and what is unconfirmed

No checked source provides a verified alternate route that saves Gaz or Price. Claims of a secret survival ending need a reproducible mission route before being added. The idea that Ko will become a national leader, or that a future title must follow Ghost, remains speculation. The reading that Price's pursuit has a personal cost is an editorial interpretation of the final scenes, not an unlock requirement.
