MW4 DMZ Radio Towers: UAV Scans, Intel & Locations
Tell UAV Towers from Lieutenant Hunt communication towers, find the right facility on the current Tac-Map and understand the October 23 recapture change.

Which radio tower do you need?
In MW4 DMZ, a UAV Tower scans nearby enemies, while a Lieutenant Hunt uses a laptop on a tall communications tower to obtain Lieutenant intel. They are separate Side Ops. Match your objective before climbing or activating anything. A campaign tower in Stranded is a third, unrelated location.
The cover's lower-right panel shows the official UAV Tower reference. The other panels show a clinic, exfil and ammo/armor cache, not alternative radio-tower objectives. Open the full-size UAV reference to enlarge it on a phone.
UAV Tower versus Lieutenant Hunt
Wide tables can be scrolled sideways.
| Facility | What to identify | What the official guide confirms |
|---|---|---|
| UAV Tower | Small portable communications mast; match the UAV Tower symbol and label on your Tac-Map | Activating it completes a Side Op, awards DMZ Cash and reveals nearby Operators and enemies with a pulse |
| Lieutenant Hunt | Tall communications tower with a laptop at the top | Access the laptop to obtain nearby Lieutenant intel and complete a Side Op |
| SAM Site | Surface-to-air launcher and control computer | Air-defense Side Op, not the UAV scan or Lieutenant intel tower |
The Hajin guide lists major POIs and threat levels. Our map tool contains 13 official POI annotations and personal markers; it does not contain a verified directory of every tower.
Find the correct facility in your deployment
- Read your current Order or Side Op prompt: does it ask for a UAV activation, Lieutenant intel or another objective?
- Open the in-game Tac-Map and compare the facility's label and symbol with the table. The official overview says these smaller locations are marked on the Tac-Map.
- Confirm the structure when you arrive. A nearby tall mast is not proof that you have found a UAV Tower. For the Lieutenant Hunt, the required interaction is the laptop at the top.
This guide has no verified fixed grid for every tower, no spawn count and no surveyed route. Use your current map and objective marker; a coordinate copied from Stranded will not locate a DMZ tower. You can store a personal marker in our map tool, but that remains your note rather than a verified public pin.
Activate a UAV Tower and reclaim enemy control
The official guide describes UAV Towers as usually guarded by enemies. Clear the immediate threat, reach the facility and follow its interaction prompt. The pulse reveals nearby enemy and Operator positions; no exact radius, duration or permanent tracking is claimed here.
The October 23 patch notes confirm that players can now take UAV Towers back from enemy control. This is a DMZ rule update, not a Lieutenant Hunt reset. Follow the current control and interaction prompt if another squad holds the tower; the source does not publish a precise capture timer or fee. Read the latest patch summary.
Get Lieutenant intel from a tall tower
For a Lieutenant Hunt, climb the communications tower and access the laptop at the top. The official guide identifies that interaction as the intel source and Side Op completion. The illustration below shows it in the lower-right panel, alongside three different facilities. It does not show the same object as the UAV mast on the cover.
Open the full-size Lieutenant Hunt reference.
Use the resulting intel with your DMZ mission and boss objectives. The October 23 notes also report fixes for certain purchased Lieutenant intel not updating a tracked Order and for Hunt progress appearing for other squads. These fixes do not prove that every missing progress report is resolved; record the exact objective if it still fails.
If your search was for the Stranded radio tower
The campaign Base Camp tower belongs to a different map and mission. The adjacent container's reported code is 0024; climbing for the tower note or summit crate is a separate task. Use Stranded codes, the campaign coordinate map or the collectible checklist. DMZ UAV interactions do not open that campaign container.
