MW4 Battle.net Install Guide: Owned but No Install Button

Find MW4 in the Call of Duty Battle.net entry, select its content for a new installation or use Modify Install when CoD is already installed.

Owned in the library, but no Install button?

Open Call of Duty in the Battle.net app, rather than the older Call of Duty: Modern Warfare entry. Blizzard support gave this specific guidance on October 26 after players reported ownership without a launch button. Select MW4 inside the install-content selection; owning it and having its files installed are different steps.

First installation

  1. Sign in to the Battle.net account that owns the game and open the games list.
  2. Choose Call of Duty. Do not substitute the older Modern Warfare game or the standalone MW4 beta.
  3. Begin installation and select Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 in the content list.
  4. Review the selected components, install location and space required in the current installer. Complete the download and updates before launching.

The October 15 Activision article describes All Games → MW4 → Install. If that named entry only shows ownership, the later October 26 Blizzard reply explains the generic Call of Duty path above. These differently dated instructions should not be collapsed into a guaranteed button location.

Call of Duty is already installed

  1. Open Call of Duty in Battle.net.
  2. Select the gear beside Play and choose Modify Install.
  3. In the popup, choose Modify Install again to open content selection.
  4. Select Modern Warfare 4, review the changes and proceed with installation.
  5. Let the download/update finish, then launch and check the mode you own.

Blizzard's reply uses the Korean menu label 설치 설정 변경. English menu wording above corresponds to Modify Install; follow the visible content-management action if your app's wording differs. This is a sourced procedure, not a screenshot of this site's own installation.

A linked Activision account does not establish that you own a Battle.net copy. Check the storefront on the receipt; the Steam installation guide applies to Steam purchases. Do not repurchase or unlink an account solely to test a missing button.

Battle.net versus Xbox PC missing buttons

The official tracked Campaign/DMZ button issue names Xbox on PC. Its Content Pack checks are not evidence of the same cause on Battle.net. Read the platform-specific issue list. A completed installation also does not prove a server outage is resolved; use official service status for that question.
