MW4 Leveling & Double XP: Player Rank, Weapons and DMZ

Choose the XP track you need, use daily challenges and activate the right Double XP token. Separate weapon unlocks, player rank and DMZ levels before choosing a mode.

Pick the progression track first

If your goal is an attachment, a player-level weapon unlock or a DMZ facility, you need different progress. Start with the exact locked item's requirement rather than treating every XP icon as interchangeable.

DMZ XP also contributes to the overall 1–55 track. Multiplayer XP does not advance DMZ level. Even a failed exfil retains earned DMZ player XP, but that does not mean your backpack, Operator or extraction-only objectives are preserved.

A practical session plan

Open Career → Challenges and check the three Multiplayer Daily Challenges. Choose an available weapon and objectives that fit together, then finish all three for the additional bonus. Official rules allow one daily reroll of one challenge. Read the new objective before committing your loadout.

The official cover example shows 2,500 XP per challenge and an 8,000 completion bonus. Those are the displayed example awards, not a guaranteed rate per match or a claim about your current daily screen. After each match, compare the actual reward and progress. This is an editorial plan, not a measured fastest-XP route.

Double XP versus Double Weapon XP

Rank XP helps the player track; Weapon XP helps weapon progression. Pick the category matching the unlock you want. Activision recommends earned Double Weapon XP Tokens during weapon leveling. A player-rank token is not a substitute for a weapon token, and neither automatically completes a camo's required action.

Nintendo Life's launch guide documents the menu flow below. It reports that MW4 token time runs during matches rather than lobbies. Check the current token description; do not apply older Modern Warfare guides' timers or infer how a separate promotional event stacks.

How to activate a token

  1. Enter the Multiplayer main lobby. For DMZ, open the FOB's left-side menu first.
  2. Open the visible 2XP / XP Tokens control. The cited console guide uses holding the right stick (R3), while mouse users can click the control. Use your current on-screen prompt.
  3. Choose Rank XP or Weapon XP, then the duration you actually own.
  4. Review the selected category and activate it. Check the active token display before starting your intended mode.

The button procedure is attributed to Nintendo Life, not a site-tested binding for every custom layout. If the count is missing, confirm the selected account and category before spending another token. This page does not advertise an unverified free-code deadline or promise unlimited stacking.

October 25 XP change and Prestige trade-offs

The October 25 update raises the kill award in Search and Destroy and Collateral from 100 to 300 XP. That single award does not establish the best XP per minute: match length, survival and objective play still matter. Compare your own completed matches instead of multiplying every mode's total by three.

Classic Prestige offers a 20% XP bonus, a token and resets; Regular keeps level unlocks. Do not choose Classic for the bonus without reading the reset and Permanent Unlock rules. Weapon Prestige is separate and re-locks the selected gun's attachments.

Weapon and DMZ next steps

For a practical weapon baseline, use ISO Nightshade or Han 86, then track that weapon's unlock. For DMZ, begin with Gear Up, Crackshot and First Op and Orders. The camo guide explains why extra XP cannot replace mounted kills or other challenge conditions.
